VELMA — Shirley Helen Finley, 68, longtime resident of Velma, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, surrounded by her family and loved ones at Meridian Nursing Home.  

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at the Velma Baptist Church with pastor Timothy Ball officiating. Burial will follow at the New Velma Cemetery, under direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.

All visitation will be at the Grantham Velma Chapel and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6.

Shirley was born July 1, 1945, in Duncan, to Rayford Charles Fulton and Nina Ruth Fulton (Freeman).

Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She married the love of her life James Raymond Finley on April 6, 1967, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Shirley was a member of the Velma Baptist Church and a member of the Eastern Star. She was a domestic goddess and the perfect Army wife.

Shirley went above and beyond what most mothers do she did everything from coaching boys baseball, taught kids how to bowl and was leader of her Girl Scout troop. She sang beautifully and was a gifted pianist. Shirley enjoyed quilting, fishing and camping with her family. She especially loved her time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 46 years, Jim Finley of Velma; her children: Cassie McKee and her husband Jim of Velma, James Finley II and his wife Gainia of El Reno, Brad Finley and his wife Jennifer of Mustang, Doug Finley, freshman at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Waterford; sisters: Sharon McGarr of Duncan, Sandra Brown of Hastings; grandchildren: James Raymond Finley III, Jayden Finley, Savannah, Hailey, Latham, Matthew Bicking, Jamie Bicking; and her great-grandchildren: Destiny Brown, Regian Bicking, Kallie Nelson and many more.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Rayford and Nina Fulton.

Pallbearers will be Kelly Don Brown, Doug Finley, Brad Finley, Jim Finley, Bobby Southerland and Ray Casto. Honorary pallbearer is Thomas Casto.
