Lola Lee McKee

March 4, 1935 - July 2, 2014

DUNCAN — Funeral services for Lola McKee, 79, of Duncan, will be Monday, July 7, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Parkview Baptist Church with Rev. Steven Gillispie officiating and under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home with interment following at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, July 6, 2014 from 4 to 6 p.m. Mrs. McKee passed away Wednesday July 2, 2014 at Duncan Regional Hospital.

Lola was born on a snowy day March 4, 1935 East of Duncan. She graduated from Doyle High School and then moved to Duncan. She worked at a dry-cleaning business and as a checker at Jones grocery store.  She was also employed at Security National Bank and while working there she met and married Herbert McKee.

Herb was a welder for Mobil Oil. The newly married couple moved to Lindsay. Over the years, Lola stayed busy raising their two sons Roger and Rodney. Herb’s job kept the family moving to different communities in Oklahoma. They eventually settled in Chickasha. They vacationed often in Colorado where fishing became a favorite pastime for Herb and Lola. She was an active parent and participated in their children's activities. She encouraged others to help and support numerous school programs. Lola also owned her own business “Lola’s beauty pleat draperies.” In 1999 due to health problems, Lola closed the drapery business and moved back to Duncan to be closer to her brother and two sisters. The siblings had many years to reminisce about their childhood.  Lola being the youngest also lived the longest.

Lola enjoyed her church family and the neighborhood where her new home was built.  She was often seen outdoors working in her flowerbed or gardening. Lola enjoyed cooking, being a hostess in her home and helping others.

Lola’s illness lingered over 25 years. During the difficult journey, she continued to maintain a positive attitude and sweet spirit. Many have been touched and inspired by her resolve to battle through the pain, so as to remain here with the family that she so dearly loved. During her last months her driving force was to be there to see and hold Rodney and Jennifer's son which will be her first biological grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her parents Laura and Newton Henderson; brother, Earl Henderson; sisters Marie Jones, Lois Pogue and Louise Davis.  She is survived by her children Roger and Jan McKee of Fresno, Calif; Rodney McKee and Fiancée Jennifer of Geronimo; daughter-in-law Debbie McKee of Moore; grandchildren, Jeremy and Shelby McKee of Houston, Texas; Megan McKee of Oklahoma City; Austin, Marlee and the greatly anticipated arrival of baby boy McKee (who is due to arrive this month) of Geronimo; Tabitha, Sebastian and Ivy Dunavent of Lawton; great-grandchildren Dylan and Drew McKee of Houston, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Jean Jones, Dean Jones, Joe Jones Roy Jones, Earl Henderson, Bill Pogue, George Pogue, and Mark McKee.

Honorary pallbearers are Paul Pogue, Joe Jones and the Parkview Baptist Church deacons.

In lieu of flowers Lola would prefer memorial contributions be made to American Diabetes Association.

Poll

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
