Lyle C. Long

May 31, 1934-June 14, 2014

CANON CITY, Colo. — Rev. Lyle C. Long, 80, a resident of Canon City, Colo., and long time member of Calvary Baptist Church, passed away on Saturday June 14 after succumbing to several months of illness. Lyle and his mother moved to Canon City in 1994 to be near family in their later years. He was born in Duncan on May 31, 1934 and then they moved to Wichita, Kan. in 1947 for him to attend The Institute of Logopedics, a school for children with cerebral palsy. There he received his early education and was taught to walk and talk. After graduating from the Moody Bible Institute, and being ordained as a minister, he spent the rest of his life sharing his faith with other physically challenged people through presentations and visitations in and around Wichita. He published and mailed a quarterly newsletter “The Challenger” from 1963 until December 2013 for his organization, Handicaps for Christ Crusade.

Lyle was preceded in death by his mother, Iva Mae (McCollum) Long, his father Dale Lough, and his step-father Benjamin W. Long. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Sharyn and Larry Cunningham, and nephew, Caleb Cunningham, all of Canon City; and cousins Earletta Bogges and William and Suzanne McCollum of Wichita, Kan.; as well as relatives in Duncan and Tulsa. Lyle was a beautiful soul who loved life in spite of his many physical challenges, and he was loved by anyone fortunate enough to catch his smile. A funeral service will be held Wednesday June 18 with a viewing at 10:30 a.m., service at 11 a.m. and reception to follow at Calvary Baptist Church, 1415 Elm Avenue, Canon City, Col. Burial will be at the Duncan Cemetery  and arrangements are handled by Holt Family Funeral Home of Canon City, Col. Online condolences @ www.holtfamilyfuneralhomes.com.

Poll

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
