Mary Alice “Betty” Mahorney

Feb. 14, 1935 - June 29, 2014

DUNCAN — Mary Alice “Betty” Mahorney of Velma was born to William Robert and Eula (Townsend) Robinson on Feb. 14, 1935 in Ada and passed from this life on June 29, 2014 in Pauls Valley at the age of 79 years.

Betty grew up and attended school in Pauls Valley. On Sept. 21, 1950, Betty married Kenneth Andrew Mahorney in Gainesville, Texas. Together they made their home in Broken Arrow, Tennessee and Velma. She kept the book on the family business, Mahorney Radio Service, for many years. Betty was a poet, songwriter, loved shopping and was an excellent cook. Betty was a good mother and a good homemaker. She enjoyed taking care of her family. She was a very caring, loving woman, always a smile and sometimes mischievous. If you sassed her she would make an example of what you did to make sure you didn’t do it again. Her pride and joy was her pets, Pepper, Lexie and Oscar. Pepper was her baby. She would go the extra mile to help anyone in need. Betty helped a lot of unfortunate families. She loved western music and she enjoyed going to Nashville, Tenn., where her sons lived. Betty was a fancy lady, she drove her Cadillac when she would go shopping. She could fill a basket full in five to 10 minutes. She loved the Lord and read her Bible regularly. She enjoyed going to church at Light of The World Church and was truly a good Christian. The highlights of her life were family and her grandchildren. Betty will be missed, but will always be in our hearts. Until we meet, we love you.

Mrs. Mahorney is survived by: Sons; Keith Mahorney and wife Shirley of Brentwood, Tenn., Robby Mahorney and wife Kimberly of Velma; three brothers, Mike Robinson and wife Marilyn of Duncan, Larry Robinson and wife Renda of Newcastle and Don Robinson of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Phyllis Moore and husband Sonny of Lindsay, Linda Morgan of Pauls Valley and Shirley Scott and husband Al of Pauls Valley; nine grandchildren, Lester, Dustin, Brandi, Desi, Kara, Robby, Mike, Toot and Sissy; 22 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Mahorney was preceded in death by: her husband, Kenneth Andrew Mahorney; sons, Kelvin Dusty Mahorney and Kenneth Ray Mahorney; parents,  William and Eula Robinson; three brothers, Billy Robinson, Jimmy Robinson and Ikie Robinson; granddaughter, Sherri O’Dell.

Poll

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
