Thomas Jackson ‘Jack’ Phillips

Sept. 27, 1926 — April 7, 2014

COMANCHE — Thomas Jackson “Jack” Phillips, a lifelong resident of Comanche, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014. He was 87 years of age. Jack left this earth as he might have planned, on the fairway of the number one hole at Comanche Golf Course, planning his approach shot after one of the beautiful drives for which he was known.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 9 at the Comanche First Baptist Church. Bro. Dow Pannell will officiate the service, assisted by Bro. Eli Gardner, under direction of Comanche Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery.

Jack was born Sept. 27, 1926, in Fort Cobb, to Hillary and Gertrude Adams Phillips. He was a veteran of World War II, serving his country in the U S Navy until being honorably discharged on April 13, 1946.

On Nov. 8, 1947, he married Pauline Genell Calame at the First Baptist Church in Henrietta, Texas. He was preceded in death by Genell, one day after their 65th wedding anniversary on Nov. 9, 2012.

He retired from a 38-year career with Halliburton Services in 1986. Jack was an avid golfer and loved socializing with his friends at the Comanche Golf Course. He loved being around his grandchildren and attending their various school and sporting activities.

Survivors include a daughter, June Miller and husband Jason of Comanche; sons: Dick N. Phillips, Comanche, and Jack and wife Edith of Duncan; two grandsons: Neil Phillips and wife Jackie, Edmond, and Jaxon Miller, Comanche; three granddaughters: Heather Phillips, Duncan, and Jayden Miller and Jaylee Miller, both of Comanche; two great-grandchildren: Ryan and Sofia Patterson, Edmond; and numerous other nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Genell; his parents; a sister, Altus Page; and two brothers: Melvin Phillips and Lynn Phillips.

Bearers will be Carl Calame, Neil Phillips, Jason Miller, Jaxon Miller, Keith Hare and Brad Benson. Honorary bearers are Edward Calame and the Comanche Lake Country Club Senior Golfers Association.

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
