Helen is descended from pioneer merchants. Her grandfather and father moved from Iowa to Oklahoma by train where they farmed until opening a dry goods and grocery business in Purcell. Helen and her twin sister, Harriet, graduated from Purcell High School in 1934. Helen enrolled in Oklahoma University (OU) in Norman, earning a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1938, and a Bachelor of Arts in Library Science in 1939.

After receiving her college degrees, Helen worked at the State Capitol Library in Oklahoma City, for approximately two years. Later, she moved to Stillwater and served as biological sciences librarian under Edmund Lowe, director of libraries at Oklahoma State University (Oklahoma A&M). It was during her time at Oklahoma A&M that she met her husband of 67 years, Ernest Harding Muncrief.

Helen took time away for her family before returning to serve as high school librarian in 1966. She retired in 1978 as school system librarian.

Helen's active retirement included travel and delivering livestock trailers and oilfield doghouses for Sooner Trailers with Ernest. The family raised cattle, hogs and sheep. Helen loved nature, especially rabbits, wildflowers and bird watching with her children.

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
