DUNCAN —

Edgar A. “Eddie” Spurgin died Monday, April 15, 2013, at Wilkins Nursing Center. He was 69 years old. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 22 with the Rev. Randy Southerland presiding.
Eddie was born July 18,1943, in Duncan, to Dick and Neda (Alexander) Spurgin. He was the middle of three children. Eddie was sent to the Oklahoma City Baptists Children’s Home when he was six years old, where he spent his formative years. He had many different jobs during his life including working as a service station attendant in Marlow, where he met his wife Janie. They were married for 11 years when she preceded him in death on April 5, 1999.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Keith Spurgin. He is survived by a sister, Lillie Campbell of Texas.
Eddie lived a simple life that was filled with his friends and church life at New Hope Baptist Church. He was truly one who never met a stranger. He could “talk to a stranger just like a friend.”
He loved children and dogs and they, in turn, were drawn to him. He could be found most afternoons at Chisholm Corner downtown talking with customers while he drank his Pepsi. Everyone who came through knew “Eddie.” He will be missed by all whose lives he touched.
