Joseph Michael Lockovich

May 11, 1943 — Nov. 9, 2013

DUNCAN — Joseph Michael Lockovich was born May 11, 1943, in Sharon, Penn., to Helen Klaich and James E Lockovich. He died at his home with family at his side Nov. 9, 2013, in Marlow, at the age of 70 years 5 months and 28 days.

Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Peter Jandaczek. Interment will follow at Fort Sill National Cemetery, under direction of Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service.

He attended the local schools in Sharon. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served for 23 years. He retired as a master sergeant in the supply branch.

During his illustrious career he received many honors and awards including: the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal eighth award, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, NCO Development Ribbon-three, Army Service, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Two Over Seas Service Bars, Expert Rifle M-16. The award he was most proud of was his induction into the Order of Saint Barbara; his certificate and medal are proudly displayed in his home.

He served one combat tour in Vietnam. He also served in other overseas assignments to include Germany and Korea, and numerous stateside assignments, including Fort Sill. After his military retirement he attended Great Plains Technology Center to become a plumber while working at the Lawtonian at night.

He was recommended to apply at the Post Office and later became a letter carrier. The height of his career as a letter carrier was when he was given a route on Fort Sill.  He retired for the second time from the Post Office after 15 years.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tiffany Marie Ford; both parents: James and Helen Lockovich.          

Joseph is survived by his wife, Cheryl of 45 years; two sons: Joseph James Lockovich and his wife Kelly of Charlotte, N.C., and Brian Anthony Lockovich and his fiancé Kristin McSpedon of Plano, Texas; son-in-law, Mike Ford and his wife Bridget; four grandchildren: Brianna Lockovich, of Charlotte, Gabrielle Lockovich, of Charlotte, Ryan Ford, of Marlow, Jaxon Eubanks of Marlow; three brothers: Bill Lockovich and his wife Bette Jo of Hermitage, Penn., Robert Lockovich and his wife Shelley, of Placentia, Calif., Richard Lockovich and his fiancé Linda Wheaton of Farrell, Penn.; a sister, Sandy Moyer and her husband Tom of Sharpsville, Penn. He also has many loving family members, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

    Twyla was born Feb. 20, 1937, in Duncan, to Willard and Ruth Tinkle and died April 16, 2014, after a brief illness. Twyla lived her entire life in the Duncan area.
