Robert Loyd Cole

Feb. 2, 1927 — Nov. 14, 2013

DUNCAN — Robert Loyd Cole was born Feb. 2, 1927, in Waurika, to Robert Marion and Mabel Morris Cole. Bob went to be with his Lord on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, in Duncan Regional Hospital at the age of 86.

Bob served his country in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged in May of 1946, and married Maxine Guinn on Sept. 21, 1946, in Byers, Texas. Maxine preceded him in death Sept. 28, 2008. They owned and operated Quality Glass in Duncan for over 33 years.

He was a member of the Housing Authority Board, a member of the Masonic Lodge, and officer in the Moose and Elks Lodge. He was the first governor of the Moose Lodge in Duncan. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church.

He loved to work in the garden and could make a tomato grow from a stick. He loved to go camping and fishing and especially loved fly fishing. He was good with his hands and enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to go on guided hunts in the earlier years and also enjoyed deer hunting with his grandson. He loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by daughters: Gwyndolyn Sue Gardner and husband Greg and Sheila Renee Cole; daughter-in-law, Jeanne Cole; eight grandchildren: Amy Moss, Shelly Wilson, Sara Wilson, Melissa Gardner, Jon Cole, Melissa Murphy, Cole Morris, Jered Davis; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine; son, Mike; and siblings: Cecil and Martha.

Funeral service for Mr. Cole will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at First Baptist Church in Waurika with the Rev. Jeff McLemore officiating. Burial will be in the Waurika Cemetery under direction of Dudley Funeral Home in Waurika.

Visitation is from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday with family receiving visitors from 3 to 5 p.m.

    Twyla was born Feb. 20, 1937, in Duncan, to Willard and Ruth Tinkle and died April 16, 2014, after a brief illness. Twyla lived her entire life in the Duncan area.
