J. L. Fredrick Wilson

July 6, 1925 - June 13, 2014

DUNCAN — J.L. "Jay" Fredrick Wilson, 88, of Duncan passed away on June 13, 2014 at a nursing home in Duncan. Services will be at 2 p.m. at Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 with the Rev. Billy Morgan officiating and under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 - 8 p.m. Jay was born July 6, 1925 to Jesse Fredrick and Elsie Lillian (Morrow) Wilson in Ardmore.  In 1944 at 19 years of age, he went to Indiana to take a war job, but later that year, hitch-hiked back to Oklahoma City still carrying his guitar.  He went to work at Tinker Field where he met his wife of 68 years, Muriel Marie Pierce.  They were married August 25, 1945 in Oklahoma City.  Their first 3 children, Yolanda Gale, Michellene and Timothy Paul were born in Oklahoma City.

Unskilled in a trade, Jay attended an electronics course at Oklahoma City University and became an electronics technician.  In 1956, he moved his family to Duncan to be of help to his mother-in-law, Mrs. Walter Pierce.  Fourth child, Gina Marie, was born here.

In 1960, he opened his own store, Jay’s TV in Duncan.  In 1970, he added Radio Shack’s 23rd world wide franchise store, bringing Radio Shack to Duncan for the first time.

Through all this, he enjoyed playing his guitar with many local music groups, bowling, and later, pool and dominoes at the Senior Citizens Center as well as with friends. He loved his children and grandchildren very much. He spent many hours fishing, camping, and other activities.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Harold Wilson of Ardmore, sisters Jaunita Houchin of Ardmore, Jean Bratton Castleberry of Oklahoma City and daughter-in-law, Cathy Yount Wilson of Duncan.  Surviving sister Wanda Dunn resides in Ardmore.

Survivors are his wife, Muriel Marie Wilson; son Timothy Paul Wilson and wife Diane of Duncan; daughter, Yolanda Gibbs and husband Carl of Rockwall, Texas; daughter Michellene Jeffress  and husband Bob of Kansas City, Miss.; and daughter, Gina Towell and husband Tony, of Wichita, Kan.  Grandchildren are Michelle Burleson Lewis of Overland Park, Kan.;  Carl L. Gibbs and wife Brenda of Hurst, Texas;  Paige Gibbs of Rockwall, Texas; Kimberly Burleson Raithel of Kansas City, Kan.; Katy Towell of Portland, Ore., and Lance Edward Wilson and wife Kourtney of Duncan. Great grandchildren include Amber Kinderkinecht; Madison Green; James, Shay, Cooper, Tate, and Spencer Gibbs; River and Sailee Forte; Chace and Natalie Wison.  

Pallbearers for the service will be Tim Wilson, Carl Lynn Gibbs, Tony Houchin, Randy Cramer, Larry Bratton, Dennis Wilson, Tony Towell, and  Glen Houchin.
