Charles Don Houston

Nov. 18, 1937 — May 20, 2013

DUNCAN — Charles Don Houston, 75, of Duncan passed away Monday evening, May 20, 2013, at an Oklahoma City hospital.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 24, at Liberty Baptist Church, with Bro. Marvin Knox officiating, assisted by Bro. Rusty Canoy.

Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, under direction of Comanche Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday. Family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Don was born Nov. 18, 1937, south of Comanche, to Charlie A. and Emily M. Clayton Houston. He joined the U.S. Army at an early age, and he served more than 30 years in the Oklahoma National Guard.

He and Joanne were united in marriage May 25, 1990, at Fort Smith, Ark. Don enjoyed gardening, military history and target shooting. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne of the home; a daughter, Donita Healer and husband Neil, Duncan; a son, Micky Houston and wife Lynn, Plano, Texas; a step-daughter, Lisa Shafer and husband Ken, Midwest City; a step-son, James Dyche and wife Lorraine, Bayside, Texas; two sisters: Sarah Q.L. Arrington, Comanche, and Shirley Rhyne and husband Wes, Winslow, Ark.; five grandchildren: David Lee Houston, Duncan, Chad Houston, Aurora, Colo., Tyra Witherup, Lewiston, Idaho, and Rachel and Emily Houston, Plano; three step-grandchildren: Stephanie Osburn, Choctaw, Sierra Dyche, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Danielle Dyche, Bayside; four great-grandchildren; three great-step-grandchildren; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and close friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Houston; and two brothers: J.C. Houston and Kendrick Houston.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ken Shafer, Pete Osburn, James Dyche, Jimmie Arrington, Joe Don Arrington and Neil Healer. Honorary pallbearers are men of Liberty Baptist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Baptist Church.

    Twyla was born Feb. 20, 1937, in Duncan, to Willard and Ruth Tinkle and died April 16, 2014, after a brief illness. Twyla lived her entire life in the Duncan area.
