Betty June Douthit

June 20, 1932 — Sept. 15, 2013

DUNCAN — Services for Betty June Douthit, 81, of Panama will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Duncan with Dr. W.A. Dillard officiating and under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.

Mrs. Douthit passed away Sunday morning, Sept. 15, 2013, at a hospital in Fort Smith, Ark.

Betty June Douthit was born on June 20, 1932, in Holdenville to John and Bess Hamilton. In 1948, Betty married her first husband Edgar Dewey Black and had one son Ted Black. In 1955, Betty remarried to her second husband Bill E. Douthit and they were married for 27 years until Bill passed away in 1981.

Betty was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church since 1958 where she volunteered as the church’s clerk and secretary for 34 years and was a member of the ladies auxiliary. Later she worked as the librarian for the Oklahoma Missionary Baptist Library until her retirement in 1993.

Betty continued to volunteer her services as church librarian until 2003 when she had to retire due to failing health. Betty lived in Duncan for 56 years before moving to Panama in 2011 to live closer to her son, Ted Black and his wife Melani Black. There, Betty joined the Lakeview Missionary Baptist Church in Spiro after she moved to Panama.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bill E. Douthit; parents, John and Bess Hamilton and a sister, Sharon Holbird.

Betty is survived by her son, Ted Black and his wife Melani of Panama; brother, John Andrew Hamilton II, step-sisters, Betty Ann Romine and Martha Byman of Wilburton; grandchildren, Jami Miller and her husband Shawn of Wheeler, Texas, Allen Black and Leslie Young of Shady Point; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jenna Helton, Kamdyn and Kadyn Black; nieces, Theresa Knight of Texas, Marilyn Bickle of Colorado, Rita Buscay of Nevada; nephews, Rick Thomason of Texas, Mike Thomason of California, Dan Thomason of Arkansas, Randall Patty of Arizona, and Wayne Patty of Oklahoma.

Pallbearers will be Alan Black, Dick Fennell, Robert Duren, Alvie  Chasteen, Randy Shirley, and Mike Turkett.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 841125 Dallas, TX 75284-1125, or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
