Laura Elizabeth (Smith) Akers 85, of Duncan, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at Wilkins Nursing Center in Duncan.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Jan. 8, 2013, at the First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Bryan Pain and Rev. Jody Hilliard officiating, interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, arrangements are under the direction of Carter-Smart Funeral Home.
Laura was born on April 4, 1927, in rural Stephens County to Gene Percy and Anna Laura Smith. She married Roy Edwin Akers on July 10, 1947 in Henrietta, Texas, and they had three children. She lived most of her life in Stephens County. Laura loved the Lord and served Him at the First Baptist Church, Duncan including 15 years as a church secretary.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law; Deanna and Kenneth Brooks of Comanche, Oklahoma, a son and dau-in-law; Steve and Gail Akers of Dallas, Texas, a brother; Edwin smith of Haynes City, Florida, grandchildren; Amy Hefton and Shelbi Berryman of Dallas, Texas, Eric Akers of Yukon, Oklahoma and Chad Akers of Duncan, Oklahoma, great grandchildren; Hayley, Kinsey, Conner, Stephanie, Jay and Joseph.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son; Jerry Akers, a sister; Evelyn Dobbs and a brother; Wayne I. Smith.
