James Gary Melton

Oct. 19, 1938 — Nov. 28, 2013

DUNCAN — James Gary Melton, 75, of Duncan, a loving husband, father, grandfather and Halliburton Services retiree passed away on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, in Duncan.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3 at Elk Avenue Church of Christ with Robert Teague officiating. Interment will follow at the family plot at Hasting Cemetery in Hastings under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.

The family will receive friendsfrom 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home .

James Gary was born Oct. 19, 1938, in Waurika to A.J. and Sybil (Clark) Melton. He married Hazel Dean Gable on May 31, 1958, in Talco, Texas.

He served in the United States Army. James was an active member of Elk Avenue Church of Christ. He was employed with Halliburton Services and upon retirement moved to Duncan to be closer to “home — Hastings.”

He enjoyed fishing and after retirement, became a self-taught wood worker. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, El Paso Scottish Rite.

Survivors include his wife Hazel of Duncan; a daughter and son-in-law Amanda Jo and Keith Kirkpatrick of El Paso, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law James Allen and Susie Melton of Levelland, Texas; two brothers Mike Melton of Oklahoma City and Thomas Melton of Churchton, Md.; three grandchildren: Erin Player and husband Jarrod, Adam Kirkpatrick and Evan Kirpatrick and a great-grandchild, Avery Player, all of El Paso, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patricia Melton.

Pallbearers will be Phil Scott, Bill Adams, Ronnie Bohot, Derrol Young, Keith Gibbs and Herman Wright. Honorary bearers are his “Halliburton friends.”

    Twyla was born Feb. 20, 1937, in Duncan, to Willard and Ruth Tinkle and died April 16, 2014, after a brief illness. Twyla lived her entire life in the Duncan area.
