Hazel Lee Ellis

Jan. 15, 1925 — Jan. 11, 2014

DUNCAN — Funeral Services for Hazel Lee Ellis, 88, of Oklahoma City and longtime resident of Duncan will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15 at the chapel of Don Grantham Funeral Home on with Rev. Gary Reynolds officiating. Interment will be at Duncan Cemetery.

Hazel Lee Ellis entered eternal life to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, in Oklahoma City. Hazel was born on Jan. 15, 1925, in Rush Springs to Henry C. Heatley and Osie Lou Heatley (Ellis).

Hazel married her husband and childhood sweetheart, Lee Herman Ellis Jr. on Feb. 27, 1943, in Duncan. Hazel was a full time mother and gave herself entirely to her children and husband’s welfare.

Hazel’s attention to detail and organization skills served her well she worked as a proof reader for the Port Arthur, Texas in 1943 and she won a televised parent-teacher Spelling Bee in the 50s.

After Kaye and Lynn where in high school, she went to work for Baptist Hospital as a medical secretary. Before computers, she’d hand copy the patient census for all six floors at the hospital and redistribute the current census report in an eight hour shift each night by 7 a.m.

Her ability to learn and pick up medical terminology, and her precise and perfect penmanship earned her respect of the doctors and nurses alike. After she left Baptist Hospital, she worked for North West Eye Physicians until she retired.

A child of the depression, Hazel held dear the heritage, traditions and memories that where important to her. Most of all, Hazel cherished her faith, family and friends. Hazel had a great passion for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved bringing her family together on birthdays, holidays and all occasions. Hazel loved nature and spent hours watching the birds and squirrels from her deck or her sunroom.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Lee H. Ellis, and her parents.

She is survived by her son, Lynn Ellis of Oklahoma; daughter, Kaye and her husband Allen Wheatley of Northlake, Texas; grandchildren, Ginger and her husband Mike Cline, and Jeff Wheatley; her “little angels” great-grandchildren, Katherine, Hannah and Sophia Cline and Samuel, Sarah and Joshua Wheatley.

Hazel will be remembered for her energy, kindness, and compassion she had for all people and animals. She had a great joy of making others happy. Her legacy will be treasured by her family and friends that knew and loved her.

Poll

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
