Ruth Laverne Harper

Oct. 21, 1924 — Dec. 28, 2013

DUNCAN — Ruth Laverne Harper, 89, of Duncan passed away on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at Country Club Care in Duncan.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at Duncan Cemetery with the Rev. Tracy L. Wilson officiating. Services are under the direction of the Don Grantham Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3 to 5 p.m. today.

Laverne was born Oct. 21, 1924, to L.D. and Lula Howard. She graduated from Duncan High School in 1942. She was a member of First Baptist Church and later became a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She married Joe T. Harper on May 2, 1970, in Duncan. She retired from PSO in the early 1970s.

Laverne is survived by nephews, Joe Harper of Duncan, Gary Harper of Buncome Creek, Eddie Stripko, Stuart Stripko and Joe Stripko, all of New Jersey; nieces, Sherri Singer of Duncan and Teresa Carlile.

She is also survived by her cousins, Darla Coder of Comanche, Linda Thurmond of Fairbanks, Alaska, Cinda Snider of Sapulpa, Ray Smith of Amarillo, Texas and Becky Matthews of Denver, Colo. and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church or the Stephens County Humane Society.
