Shirley Jo Ann (Murphy) McCoy

March 21, 1933 — April 18, 2013

Jo Ann was a charter member of Traditional Study Club, member and past president of Chapter FJ, PEO and Friends of the Hospital. She served on the Board of Director of Hospice, Stephens County Mental Health Association and Stephens County Community Concert Association where she served as the first woman president.
Perhaps the crowning achievement for Jo Ann was that in 1986, at the request of the City of Duncan and the Chamber of Commerce, she served as fundraising coordinator of the Simmons Center project. This culminated in her being elected to the first Board of Directors of the Simmons Center, a position she held from 1989 to1999.
Sometimes she was referred to as the ‘Godmother’ of the Simmons Center because of her ability to persuade a vast array of people to donate their talents and time to make the Simmons Center what it is today.
Also high on her achievement list is that in 1988 she was elected Woman of the Year by the Duncan Chamber of Commerce.  Jo Ann was proud of the work she did on the book covering the history of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, which was published in 2009. A copy is now in the archives of the Catholic Archdioces in Oklahoma City.
Finally, Jo Ann loved to dance, ride bicycles, play bridge and attend her children’s and grandchildren’s activities.
Jo Ann is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bill of the home; three children Mike McCoy and wife Dr. Aleda Toma of Oklahoma City, Chris McCoy of Eureka Springs, Ark., and Melissa McCoy of Allen, Texas; one brother James Murphy and a sister Patricia Thompson both of El Reno; three grandchildren Leigh McCoy, Mark McCoy and Anneliese McCoy.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Jo Ann was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.

Should the date for The World's Largest Garage Sale be changed from the third weekend in July to sometime in October to take advantage of cooler weather like we had this past weekend?

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
