Perry James “Pete” Brinegar, Sr., 84, of Duncan, passed away Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at Duncan Regional Hospital in Duncan.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in New Hope Baptist Church West with the Rev.
Randy Southerland officiating. Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Comanche, under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday.
Perry was born Feb. 15, 1924, in Graham to Russell E. and Ottie Brown Brinegar. He served in the United States Army from March 17, 1943, to Jan. 10, 1946, including theaters of service E.T.O., earning grade rank T5 and awards of good conduct and four bronze stars.
After returning home he joined the Duncan Fire Dept., serving 22 years and retiring as Assistant Fire Chief. He also owned B & B Meat Processing from 1964 to 1987.
He was past president of Oklahoma Retired Fireman Assoc., past governor of the Moose Lodge 2002, V.F.W. Post 1192, Cootie 28 and D.A.V.
Perry married Alma Jean Wood April 28, 1947, in Henryetta, Texas. They spent 61 wonderful years together.
He was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Survivors include his wife, Jean, of the home; a son, Perry James Brinegar Jr. and wife, Ronni, of Duncan; two daughters: Linda Cole and husband, David, of Duncan, Tonya Jo Thompson and husband, David, of Glenpool; a sister: Jo Dean Porter of Grand Junction, Colo.; a brother-in-law: Bill Wood and wife, Kay, of Duncan; 11 grandchildren: Sammy Brake and wife, Lori, Mindy Howton and husband, Shea, of Norman, Chad Miller and wife, Layla, of Owasso, Lynn Miller and wife, Christina, and Brent Miller, all of Glenpool, Braylin Arrington and wife, Kristen, of Duncan; two step-granddaughters: Angel Newberry and husband, Treble, of Marlow and Chasity Bowen and husband, Richie; three step-grandsons: Jeremy Cole and wife Amanda, of Duncan, Chris Thompson and wife, Stephanie, of Kansas, Okla., and Bucky Thompson of Tahlequah; 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson: Michael James Fannie, of who Grandpa was mighty proud of.
Perry was preceded in death by his father, mother and step-father Harmon Klepper; a brother, Russell Brinegar; two brothers-in-law: Leo Porter and Donald Wood; his mother-in-law and father-in-law: Jewel and Bernard Wood; and a granddaugther, Teeniesa Brake.
Perry also leaves many nephews, nieces and friends. He will be missed by all, especially his little friend, Chihuahua “Poncho Villa”.
Bearers will be members of The Duncan Fire Dept.
Honorary bearers are retired firefighters and Hegel Branch Jr.
