Robert Edward Waggoner

DUNCAN — Robert Edward Waggoner, 70, of Marlow, passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, in Marlow.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Hope Community Church with David Standifer officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery under direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home of Marlow.

Robert was born Aug. 26, 1938, in Walters, to William C. and Francoise Louise Waggoner. He graduated from Bray High School. Robert earned his degree at Fayetteville Technical Community College.

He retired from the U.S. Army as a photographer and journalist. For many years during his Army career, he was a non-commissioned officer. His assignments took him all around the world. He was also a marksmanship instructor. Robert served his country in Vietnam, Grenada and Panama. He was decorated with a Bronze Service Star and three Purple Hearts.

Robert was an avid reader and enjoyed studying history. He was a wonderful cook and a fine rock ’n’roll dancer. He was a member of Hope Community Church.

Survivors include a son, Mark Waggoner of California; twin daughters: Barbara and Julee Waggoner of the Fayetteville/Wilmington, N.C., area; two brothers: Mike Waggoner and wife, Trudy, of Bray, and Dale Waggoner and wife, Shelley, of Salem, Ore.; three sisters: Katie Davis and husband, Lloyd, of Marlow, Sharron Shockley and husband, Larry, of Rockport, Texas, and Carolyn Kelley and husband, Mike, of Hagerman, N.M.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Tessie Waggoner; and a brother, Steve Waggoner.
