A jury term in which 400 people, 50 more than normal, were summoned will begin Monday at the Stephens County Courthouse.
Stephens County Court Clerk Margaret Cunningham said she’s unsure how many will attend, but is expecting a substantial crowd.
Stephens County Sheriff Wayne McKinney said those who are going to the courtrooms Monday should leave their cell phones, iPads and recording devices at home.
Additionally, those entering the courthouse will have to pass loose items, like purses, wallets and keys, through an X-ray machine and walk through a metal detector at the entrance to the courthouse.
Security at the Stephens County Courthouse tightened following a meeting of the Stephens County commissioners, county sheriff and district attorney on Oct. 16.
McKinney said the security was increased partly in response to an audit from the Department of Homeland Security and in an effort to ensure the safety of the public and those who work in the courthouse.
