Veterans of the popular local series of Civic Capers productions here are seeking old photos, program covers and memorabilia to create a prominent and permanent display to honor those unique performances and performers.
Civic Capers was sponsored for 40 years by the Civic Auditorium Foundation Inc. It featured a biennial Broadway-type show with a director, costumes and show from New York and talent from Duncan.
The planned display will on the west wall of the Simmons Center Theatre lobby.
“We think it’s important to recognize a special era and the people who made it special,” Bob Schick, who along with Sue Beall, is chairing the collection effort.
“We lost a lot of items that were originally planned to be part of the display, so we’re starting over and need help.”
Items, which will not be returned, should be presented to the executive director’s office at the Simmons Center.
The Civic Auditorium Foundation Inc., through its 19-show Capers from 1962 through 1999, donated $286,170 toward the 750-seat theatre and also donated to the City of Duncan land where Cameron University-Duncan is now located.
