Masked robber brandishes knife, steals $2,600 from VFW post

DUNCAN — A knife-wielding robber wearing a mask punched the VFW post’s female night manager  in the face and stole  more than $2,600,  police said.

The heist occurred between 11 and 11:20 p.m. Monday at VFW Post 1192 on U.S. Highway 81 and left the female victim in a daze.

“She appeared to be having a panic attack when I arrived,” said Detective Bill Fitzhugh.

The suspected entered the building through a back door as the woman was closing up the post for the night, Fitzhugh said.

Police reports said the assailant “demanded the money” and punched the victim “in the face and knocked her down.”

She was struck in the right cheek but the blow was descibed as minor in the police report.

After that, the burglar stepped over the victim and took about $2,643, police said.

Fitzhugh said the description of the suspect is sketchy, but he hopes police will  know more  once the victim is able recount the incident.

“As of right now all we know is it is a white male wearing a black shirt and dark blue jeans,” Fitzhugh said.

She was checked on by Emergency Medical Services at the scene.
