While it’s only the second month of the year, February has surpass------ed January with the amount of rainfall.
On Wednesday, the amount of precipitation for Duncan increased with the onset of rain and pea-sized hail. During the 24-hour period, The Banner recorded 0.96 inches. This is just under the amount of rain received for all of January and more than the total precipitation received in February 2012.
As of Thursday, the rain total for the month of February was 1.63 inches. In January, Duncan received 1.01 inches.
Although more rain has been received for February than January, the total rain for February may not change. According to the Weather Channel website, no rain is expected in the next 10 days, making Wednesday the last rainy day for the month, which ends next Thursday.
Despite the possibility of a standstill for February precipitation, this month has received more than February 2012, when Duncan had received 0.77 inches.
February 2012 did have additional rain toward the end of the month. The final rainfall total for February 2012 was 0.84 inches. This is an increase of 0.79 inches this month over February 2012.
While February this year has surpassed this total, the total rainfall was slightly higher to the same point for January and February totals.
The biggest contributor this difference is the more significant amount of rainfall received in January 2012, a total ending at 2.02 inches. During that month, Duncan received double the amount of rain received in January 2013.
This is the wettest February the city has seen since 2010, when Duncan received 2.12 inches of rainfall. That year was prior to the onset of a two-year drought that moved through 2011 and 2012, and may be continuing into 2013.
In 2011, February’s rain total was 0.9 inches, a low rainfall that remained through much of the year until about midway through September.
