DUNCAN — Duncan firefighters responded to a house fire on West Elk Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Friday.

The house was a few doors down from 10th Street. Three fire units and around a dozen firefighters responded to the blaze. Several police officers were also at the scene and helped block traffic from the 1000 Block of West Elk with their police cruisers.

The homeowners were out of town attending a funeral for a family friend when the fire started. There were no injuries.

Desmond Jones, son-in-law of the homeowners, said the fire spread through the house. Jones made his way around the dwelling and said there were flames coming from various areas.

He said the east wing of the house was a total loss and seemed to be where the fire’s focal point was.

A fire investigator was at the scene by around 4:30 p.m. Because the cause of the fire was unknown Friday afternoon, the fire is under investigation by the fire department.

Firefighters were still battling the fire into Friday evening.
