DUNCAN — Area Realtors were surrounded by Christmas cheer for the Duncan Association of Realtors annual banquet Friday night.

Held at the Duncan Golf & Tennis Club, the event was planned by Tammy Saltiel, banquet committee chair, and her committee members. This event allows the Realtors to reflect over the past year, install new officers and board members, as well as honor two Realtors with awards.

The 2012 Realtor of the Year went to Darren Bridges, a Stephens County native who, after being away for school and his first years in the workforce, returned to Duncan in 2004. In 2011, he opened his own business, Bridges Realty Group, and is heavily involved in Realtors and the community, as well as being a family man.

“I don’t know what to say but thank you to everyone,” said Bridges. “This is a special award.”

This year’s recipient of the Joe Wood “Be Good” award was Debbie Lynn Benton, who was the 2008 Realtor of the Year. The Joe Wood award is in memory of Wood and is given to someone who is community oriented, both in and outside the profession, and has traits of integrity, positive attitude in their character and a genuine concern for their fellow beings.

“I am surprised and shocked,” said Benton. “Thank you very much.”

Throughout the year the Realtors host several projects that go to help the community such as a canned food drive, coat drive and golf tournament fundraiser.

“We’re here to serve and if we worry about service first and commission last, people will pay us to do what we do with out a second thought,” said Lynn Parr, 2012 president. “We’ll enjoy a greater reputation.”

During the evening, Parr passed the gavel to incoming president Grant Perkins. Parr told Perkins that it gave him much “pleasure and security” passing it along to him because he knew the kind of person Perkins is and wished him luck for the next year.

Other officers who were inducted were Pat Burke, president-elect; Teresa Young, vice president; Janet Casselberry, secretary/treasurer; Kelli Harman, secretary/treasurer-elect; and Sheryl Spradling, state director.

Newly inducted Board of Directors members were Debbie Lynn Benton, Sheryl Spradling, Tracy Atkinson, all 3-year term members; Brenda Knape, Keith Perkins, Darren Bridges, all 2-year term members; and Spanky Davis, Allen Johnson, and Bryan Fisher, all 1-year term members.

Debbie Lynn Benton, district 2 vice president, performed the installation of officers.
