DUNCAN — The Duncan Rotary Club will be overseeing the annual Christmas Auction this year, starting with a planning meeting set for Monday night.

Volunteers will be meeting at 5:50 p.m. Monday at the Jaycee Hut. Cindy Reynolds, former Duncan Rotary Club president, will be heading up this year’s auction, which will be from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. every night during the first full week of December, between Dec. 2 through Dec. 6.

The annual auction raises funds to purchase clothes for children in need and to provide scholarships for Duncan students. Every year, the auction helps buy clothes for more than 300 children. This year’s shopping date is set for 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 14.

“We’re starting to collect items,” Reynolds said. “We need to have all the items by Nov. 18.”

The donation collecting deadline is set for Nov. 18 to give the volunteers time to input the items into the computer. This also helps the group compile a master list.

The auction was founded by the Duncan Jaycees. Last year, the Jaycees requested help from the Duncan Rotary Club. The Jaycees were facing dwindling membership. This year, the Rotary Club has taken over the auction because the Jaycees don’t have enough members to do it.

Aside from sponsorship, this year’s auction will feature one other change. The web address to view the auction online will be The nightly auction can still be seen on Duncan Channel 10.

Reynolds said anyone in the community can help with this year’s auction. She said there will be people who have helped in previous years, and she expects there to be new volunteers this year, too.
