Block of Pine closed for DHS construction, to reopen Monday

DUNCAN — Duncan residents might notice Pine Street, between 19th and Lester, is closed.

This closure is to aid in construction at the Duncan High School. The section of road was closed Wednesday and is set to reopen in about a week.

“It will open back up in about a week from today (Monday),” Superintendent Sherry Labyer said. “That’s our target date.”

As part of a $19 million bond issue, Duncan Public Schools is adding onto the backside of the Duncan High School. That construction will include a new cafeteria, a new library and a new commons area.

The bond issue was passed by a super majority vote Feb. 14, 2012. The bond issue is also renovating the current high school building. A portion of the main building is closed off for the construction of a new office area. The renovation will also include the construction of more classrooms.

“They’re rerouting lines,” Labyer said. “They have to bore under that street.”

Marlow Public Schools has a similar road closure at the Marlow Elementary School. The Marlow road because of the construction of a new elementary wing, which required beams to be moved across the road from the construction demo site.
