RRTC Board approves quotes for student carpentry house project

DUNCAN — Several quotes for a carpentry house project were approved by the Red River Technology Center’s Board of Education during its regular meeting Monday night.

Each year, the RRTC carpentry students construct a house from the ground up under the supervision of their teacher. At the completion of the house, it is sold by the school and funds are used to build the following year’s house.

Quotes approved were $5,000 from Ken’s Electric for electrical work, $2,281.25 from Martinez Drywall for texture work, $2,835 from Spivey Insulation for insulation work, and $4,150 from Gary Gordon for painting/staining.

“(Construction) is moving along well,” said Dennis Loafman, superintendent. “It’s a good class.”

Jeff Coal and Savannah Lewis were approved to be added to the A&CD, AEL and BIS instructor list. Board members also approved the resignation of long-time receptionist Katheryn Johnson because of retirement, effective Jan. 1, 2014.

“Kathy has been a tremendous employ for more than 26 years,” Loafman said. “We’re going to miss her and we wish her the best.”

An election on Feb. 11, 2014, was approved by the board to elect board members to represent Zones 1 and 4. The Zone 1 position represents a large section of the Waurika area and is for a two-year term instead of the standard five.

Gary Carter resigned from the board in May of this year and Kristie Gaines was appointed to replace him the following month. The two year term would be finishing out Carter’s five-year term.

Zone 4 represents the Duncan area for the most part and is for a five-year term.

Other agenda items included:

n RRTC board meeting dates for the 2014 calendar year were approved to be the second Monday of each month, except for November, when the board will meet on the first Monday.

n The OdysseyWare Concurrent License Agreement was approved by board members.

n Lisa Simmons was approved to be added to the substitute list.
