DUNCAN — Duncan Mayor Gene Brown is among the nominees for the 2013 Mayor of the Year for Oklahoma municipalities. The Mayors Council of Oklahoma named Brown, along with others for municipalities of 5,000 or more population.
Also nominated are Mick Cornett, Oklahoma City; Charles Hall, Perry; Fred Fitch, Lawton; Matt White, El Reno; Tina Foshee-Thomas, Idabel; Jack Fry, Midwest City; Bob Coburn, Muskogee; Patrick Woolley, Warr Acres; and Mike Burdge, Sand Springs.
Nominees for 2013 Mayor of the Year for municipalities of 5,000 and below are: Karen Hawkins, Cherokee; Jerry Holland, Oologah; Denise Janko, Beaver; Terry Doty, Nash; Marsha Jones, Kellyville; and Larry Godfrey, Stigler.
The MCO award recognizes the dedication and commitment brought to the highest elected post in municipal government. Criteria for consideration requires nominees to be an MCO member and in elected municipal office at the time of presentation. Additionally, nominees must complete a minimum of three years of service in an elected municipal office and their municipality must be an OML member.
The awards will be presented at the Oklahoma Municipal League (OML) Annual Awards Banquet on Sept. 19 at the Doubletree Hotel in Tulsa.
