Schneekloth has council run on his bucket list

DUNCAN — Running for a spot on the City Council is on what Bill Schneekloth calls his “bucket list budget fund.”

“It means this is one of things on my bucket list -- to get involved wtih the community and discuss the issues,” he said.

Schneekloth, a retired industrial plant manager, is trying his best to spend his retirement bucket funds wisely.

“I can’t afford a billboard, so I made my own for a buck thirty-eight,” he said, holding up his black jacket which has one of his campaign yard sign slogans stuck on the back.

Schneekloth grew up in western Iowa on a dairy farm. He is the oldest of three sons and had three younger sisters and three older sisters.

“It was a good life,” he said.

He spent three years in the U.S. Army Security Agency and then tried to become an FBI agent only to learn he didn’t qualify because he didn’t have a college degree and he was colorblind, he said.

He went to California in 1965, landed a job as a machinist and worked his way through college with help from the GI Bill. He earned a degree in business management and an MBA from the University of La Verne. Schneekloth then worked for three manufacturing companies before deciding to retire from Rockwell Automation in 2005.

“I said you decide where you want to live cause I can live anywhere,” he recalled telling his wife Freeda, a 1966

graduate of Duncan High School.

She wanted to move back home where her family and friends were. She has two sisters, one in Duncan and the other in Lawton, and a brother in Elgin.

Their daughter and two adult-age grandchildren followed them to Oklahoma from the San Diego area, and the couple now has two great-grandchildren.

No. It's better in the summer cause kids are out of school.
Yes. More shoppers would come during nice fall weather.
Either time is fine.
