DUNCAN — With a splash of color, the Project Graduation Committee for Duncan High School is working to raise funds for this year’s senior event.

On April 5, the committee will have its Color Me Grad 5K fun run/walk beginning at Halliburton Stadium and ending on the high school practice field behind Halliburton Stadium. Packet pickup and day-of -registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., and the event is set to begin at 9 a.m.

Lori Mirth, who is in charge of the event, said pre-registration will go through March 25.

“We always have a 5K,” Mirth said. “This year, we decided to do something a little different.”

Through the 5K run/walk, there will be stations where colored powders are thrown on participants. She said people will wear white and the color will create injections of color on their blank clothing.

Mirth said similar runs have grown in popularity, the goal being to encourage more people to participate in the event.

Pre-registration for the event is $25. Those who pre-register get a T-shirt and neon sunglasses.

Project Graduation is an event for graduating high school seniors.

Every year, Duncan High School senior parents put together the event to provide a place for high school seniors to go the night of their graduation, providing them have a safe place to celebrate with their friends.

Project Graduation is a lock-in event, where the youths spend the entire night doing various activities at the Simmons Center.

The fun run/walk is just one of several fundraising efforts for this year’s Project Graduation Committee. Mirth said people and businesses have donated to the race, and she hopes people take the opportunity to participate in the event.

“I think it will be a lot of fun,” Mirth said.

Pre-registration can be done online at For more information, call Lori Mirth at 580-467-2872 or visit the event’s Facebook page.
