DUNCAN — U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe has been slated as the keynote speaker for the 9th annual Stephens County Republican Fish Fry which happens Saturday.

Festivities begin for the public at 6 p.m. at the Stephens County Fair & Expo Center and the event attracts Republicans from throughout Oklahoma, as second in attendance to the GOP state convention.

About 700-800 supporters from throughout the state are expected to attend, said Steve Fair, event chairman.

At 5 p.m. a private reception is held for those who have purchased tables, and Inhofe will join in on that. He will then help kick off the evening by speaking at approximately 6:15 p.m.

“Senator Inhofe is well respected in Republican circles and people like to hear what he has to say,” said Leon Farris, county chairman.

Several pounds of fish will be fried up to be served, along with hushpuppies and all the various trimmings.

“We have four serving lines, so we move people pretty fast and get them served quickly, then move the program on a timely manner,” Fair said.

“Then there is the fun of the silent auction and live auction of donated items that is always a big hit with the crowd. We’ve seen an apple pie bring hundreds of dollars to help our efforts,” Farris said.

All the funds go to the county GOP to aid in providing a headquarters for each election year and helping Republican candidates get elected to office. There will be about 10 live auction items and 20 items for the silent auction.

“Our job is to raise money that is used to support a headquarters facility on election years and used to help at the grassroots level to elect conservatives to local offices,” said Fair. “We get no funds from the National Republican Party, so this is our main fundraiser.”

Another highlight of the evening will be the announcement of this year’s recipient of the Dr. Gerald Beasley Award.

Tickets will be available at the door and more information is available at 580-656-7951.
