SW Oklahoma plans Memorial Day programs to honor area veterans

DUNCAN — A Memorial Day program is slated for noon Monday in the Duncan Cemetery.

The program will take place near the American Legion Memorial in the cemetery.

“We would like to invite the community to memorialize our veterans,” Dan Mitchell, Stephens County Honor Guard commander, said.

Area veteran groups taking part in the event are the Stephens County Honor Guard, Dobbs-Adams American Legion Post 55, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1192, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 92 and AmVets Betty J. Wood Memorial Post 11.

Comanche’s program is set for  10:30 a.m. in Fairlawn Cemetery.

Marlow’s event is set to begin at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Marlow Cemetery.

Rush Springs Cemetery will host the final Memorial Day ceremony for the Stephens County Honor Guard. That event is set for 2:30 p.m.

Fort Sill National Cemetery Memorial Day program will begin at 10 a.m. Monday and will be sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #751.

The program which is to remember and honor all military members who have served or are currently serving our Nation, will feature keynote speaker LTC (R) Jerry Orr of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter # 751. For information, contact William E. Rhoades, Cemetery Director, 918-478-2334.
