DUNCAN — Winter weather has been a cause of concern for Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers as they look after the welfare of area motorists.

OHP Trooper Mark Smith responded to an accident on Blackburn Road, about 1/2 mile west of Plainsman Road around 6:45 a.m. Friday. Smith said two vehicles hit a patch of ice and wrecked.

“One vehicle, westbound, hit a patch of ice, slid and hit a fence. A second vehicle, eastbound, hit the same patch of ice and rolled.”

Smith said both parties were treated and released with minor injuries.

He said both drivers did have some accident-related pain, but nothing to be concerned about.

“It was extremely minor,” he said.

Prior to Friday morning, Smith has only worked three accidents since the area received snow and ice Tuesday.

For having such winter weather, he said things have actually been mild as far as accident go.

“There haven’t been too many,” Smith said.
