DUNCAN — The Duncan Chamber banquet marked a change within the Chamber’s board of directors.

Jerry Shaffer, 2013 board chairman, ended his term heading the board to pass the duties of the positions to Buddy Hokit, the 2014 board chairman. Shaffer, who will remain on the board, recognized the work the board members put forth throughout the year.

Shaffer said 2013 was a successful year for the Duncan Chamber of Commerce. Not only did the organization meet all of its goals, but it also kept within budget. The Chamber put money back into the community, made community improvements through the Duncan Leadership classes and had more than 30 ribbon cuttings when businesses opened in Duncan.

He gave credit for members of the Duncan Chamber for the help he received throughout his term as board chairman.

“I want to thank you for your help and support throughout the year,” Shaffer said.

Hokit took the stage after being recognized for heading the board this year. Hokit said the success of the coming year will hinge on the progress of the Chamber in 2013.

“I know it says I’m supposed to talk about goals for this year. I don’t think you can talk about goals without looking where you’ve been,” Hokit said.

Before stepping down, Shaffer recognized a board member who rolled off the board this year. Dana Schoening, a former board chairman, was the only board member whose term ended, but Shaffer said there would be several to roll off next year.
