DUNCAN — This was Allison Christian’s first year to compete and she was crowned the 2012 Stephens County Free Fair Pageant Queen.

The Duncan senior also won best party wear and has been heavily involved in other fair events such as livestock showing and decided to finally enter the pageant. Needless to say, she was happily surprised.

“I’m so excited because it is such an honor to represent the fair,” said Christian. “It’s my senior year and this is the one part of the fair I haven’t ever been a part of, so I thought I’d give it a try and I’m very happy with how it turned out.”

When going through the process of the a pageant such as the interview portion and walking the stage, Christian had a particular mind set.

“Walk slow and keep calm,” she said was her motto.

Christian will be recognized at this year’s Free Fair Rodeo and will help out with various duties throughout. She, along with the other queens from the different age groups, will help promote the fair, which takes place Aug. 22-25.

“I am very excited and I’ll be showing in the fair as well,” she said.

Miss Congeniality was voted by the Miss and Junior Miss contestants to go to Megan Heinrich. Heinrich has competed in the pageant before and won Junior Miss Queen in 2010.

“It was a great honor because all of the girls are so nice and for them to pick me, it’s just an honor,” she said.
