DUNCAN — Around 5 p.m. Wednesday, Duncan firefighters responded to a fire at a house in the 500 block of North 44th street.

Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Hammack said the fire might have been caused by a lightning strike, just outside the garage. The possible lighting strike might have caught some leaves on fire.

“It filled the attic with smoke,” Hammack said. “They said they heard it, so it sounds like it was lightning.”

The Duncan Fire Department had three fire units respond with a fire chief’s vehicle also in attendance. Hammack said it didn’t take long to put the fire out.

To ensure the fire was extinguished and there were no possible hot spots, the firefighters walked around the property, throughout the house and on the roof of the house. Hammack said the firefighters were going to stay at the property for a while to make sure everything was alright. They had brought in a tanker to help assist in the battle.
