DUNCAN — On Wednesday, Duncan Public Schools was slated to send out bid packets for the Duncan High School bond project.

This step moves the bond project closer to groundbreaking for the project. Superintendent Sherry Labyer said Wednesday’s release of the main bid package kicks off a schedule of events leading to the renovation of the high school.

“We’ll have a planning meeting to open the main bid package May 22,” Labyer said. “For the June 4 (Duncan) Board (of Education) meeting, we’ll look at the bids.

“Pending a decision by the board, we’ll have a groundbreaking ceremony June 10.”

Labyer said there is some discussion underway with the high school staff to determine which teachers will be changing classrooms and when. She said some teachers will be packing up their items before Summer Break to be prepared to move their items.

She said staging classrooms will be determined for each phase of the project to disrupt student learning as little as possible.

“We’re going to make it to where it doesn’t affect student achievement,” Labyer said.

Labyer said the school’s faculty and administration are ready for the work to begin.

“We’re very, very excited,” Labyer said.
