Police were searching Wednesday for a 36-year-old Duncan man accused of impregnating a 17-year-old girl.
An arrest warrant was issued in Stephens County District Court on Tuesday for Jason Anthony McDaniel of the 500 block of North A Street, who is charged with felony child sex abuse.
The charge alleges he willfully engaged in lewd or indecent acts with a child under 18, according to court records. The crime is punishable by up to life in prison.
Duncan Police Detective William Fitzhugh talked to McDaniel on Friday, according to a court affidavit. McDaniel said he wanted a lawyer if he was going to be arrested and at that point questioning was stopped.
Fitzhugh told McDaniel to have an attorney contact him on Monday, but McDaniel said he could not afford one. Fitzhugh advised him to go to the court clerk’s office and file paperwork to have counsel appointed.
A second offense warrant was issued late Tuesday after a man told police he had information about McDaniel and the allegations.
According to the affidavit, a nurse with the Stephens County Health Department talked with the girl during a home visit last on July 12. She told the nurse she was 19 weeks and one day pregnant and that McDaniel was the father of the child.
She said the first incident with McDaniel began as tickling, then kissing and “then it happened,” the affidavit states.
“At first it was two to three times week, then once or twice and the last time was three weeks ago,” the girl is quoted as saying. She said she got the Plan B pill in February but it was taken too late to avoid the pregnancy.
“I’ve been depressed over all this,” the girl said.
Fitzhugh said he talked to the girl and she told him she and McDaniel had been having sex two to three times a week beginning in early January, and that she had not had sex with anyone else.
The girl was taken into the custody of the Department of Human Services on Friday and taken to a shelter.
