The Duncan Banner
A special bench dedication will be held at 2:30 p.m. today in memory of Alyssa Dawn Wiles, who was killed in June at her home.
The dedication will be held at the Simmons Center, with two speakers, Stephanie Gregston and Steven Gillespie. A public balloon release will be held after the speakers. The short ceremony will happen, rain or shine, outside the north entrance of the Simmons Center.
A fundraiser is also ongoing to help with the Alyssa Wiles Dance Scholarship for young dancers.
Wiles, 14, daughter of Brad and Angela Wiles, had just completed 8th grade at Duncan Middle School and was beginning her summer vacation. On June 10, she was found by her father in her bedroom. She had been stabbed to death. Within two days, an ex-boyfriend, Michael Anthony Ray, 16, had been interviewed and arrested. He is charged with murder in the first degree with deliberate intent and is being held in the Stephens County Jail.
Alyssa had been a dance student at Heartbeat Dance Studio under Gregston’s direction for five years.
Her mother, Angela, encourages everyone who wants to remember her, to come and enjoy the memorial bench dedication.
