DUNCAN — Whether you’ve never set foot into the Duncan Public Library or it’s an almost daily trip for you, Local Author’s Day is not a day to miss.

There are numerous authors in and around Duncan, though many residents don’t realize it. Local Author’s Day is set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the library.

“This is our third year to have it and it was well-attended last year,” said Jan Cole, library director. “We have 18 authors coming and most have donated a copy of their work to the library to be checked out.”

Each author will have a booth with a display on one of the library’s two floors, where the public can stop by to visit with them. Many will have copies of their books to sell and be autographed.

“It’s a wonderful way for people to gather together with local authors to see what they have written,” said Sandy Grabman of Duncan, who will be there with all five of her books.

Out of the authors coming, there are several genres represented including non-fiction, adult fiction, teen fiction and children’s. Grabman sticks to non-fiction written works. Four of her books are biographies of actors and actresses from the live television era of the 1950s.

“It involved a lot of travel and I made a lot of new friends,” she said. “As I watched actors and actresses on TV as a teen, I never thought I’d get to know them.”

Actresses such as Betsy Palmer and Kathy Garver are only a couple of television stars of that day who Grabman has met and visited with. Cole and the rest of the library hope the community will come visit with Grabman and the other authors, who also have stories to tell.

“They are all represented by different publishers and there are a lot of people interested in getting published,” said Cole.

At 11 a.m., there will be a special reading time in the children’s section, where the three children’s book authors coming to the event will read their works. Last year, each author read an excerpt from their book but it cut down on the public’s visiting time, Cole said, so only the special children’s time will be scheduled this year.

Authors attending this year’s Local Author Day are: Jamie Battiest, Veda Garrick, Sandra Grabman, Andrew Reddin, Charles Roy McConnell, all of Duncan; Erica Stuck and Bailey Jalynn, both of Comanche; Sahara Moran of Marlow; August Moore, Judson Troop, Syrus Sairiama, and Raymond Schmidt, all of Lawton; Stephen Bagley of Ada; Stephanie Jeffords of Dustin; Tom Kidwell of Hastings; Gloyd McCoy of Noble; and Laura Eckroat of Fort Worth, Texas.
