DUNCAN — A wildfire had multiple fire departments responding just after 6 p.m. tonight to an area of at least a mile long, east of Waterplant Road, behind the City of Duncan's waterplant facility. Duncan firefighters, along with those from Empire, Oakridge and others, quickly knocked down the fire which was in a wooded area. The fire did not affect the city facility and firefighters were able to access it from various entry points.
A PSO utility truck also arrived on scene through access at the city facility on the north end of the fire to check poles for fire damage.
The fire extended south to Chestnut and Tucker. Firefighters were still on scene at 10 p.m. watching hot spots.
Law enforcement, including Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Stephens County Sheriff's Department helped with traffic control and allowed entry on Waterplant Road at Elk Ave., to responding agencies, those with clearance, or those who lived in that area.
More information will be posted Tuesday.
