DUNCAN — A scholarship set up in Christopher Lane’s memory will have a healthy sum to start.

More than $9,000 was raised through the Chris Lane Memorial Run, which featured 5K and 1 mile runs. Sonya Hill, run organizer, said  the total is about $9,300 and is based on online donations, registration and pre-registration. The scholarship funds are being placed into an account at Arvest Bank.

“I’m excited,” Hill said. “I was anxious to hear the numbers.”

The running event took place Monday. More than 500 people participated in the event. Hill hopes this becomes a yearly occurrence.

Hill said she was happy with the money raised, but wished she had more time to plan so more money might have been raised for the scholarship.

“I think if we had had more than two weeks, that number would have gone higher,” Hill said. “It’s still a good number to start a scholarship on.”
