Ducks Unlimited returns to Duncan

DUNCAN — Ducks Unlimited is a non-profit national organization which strives to conserve waterfowl and wetlands and a local chapter has recently been revived.

There was a Duncan chapter for several years until about 2006 and the Chisholm Trail chapter of Ducks Unlimited is in its first year of return. Members get together somewhat regularly to raise funds for the organization’s causes.

“We had an annual banquet on June 1 and raised about $19,000,” said Julio Alvarez, who started the Duncan chapter up again. “The funds are turned in to the national organization.”

From there, the proceeds are spread out to waterfowl and wetlands conservation organizations. Most recently, the local chapter held a Sportsman’s Night Out this past Friday. There was some miscommunication about the date of the event and most of the public thought it was to be held this week.

“We only had about 45 people there while we had about 110 for the banquet,” said Alvarez. “Sportsman’s Night Out is to meet more people and gain more knowledge and we raffle off some hunting equipment.”

Though there weren’t as many as he’d hoped at the event, Alvarez said they did break even through funds raised.

For more information on the local chapter of Ducks Unlimited, find the group on Facebook by searching Duncan Ducks Unlimited Chisholm Trail Chapter. Alvarez said you can also email him at julio.alvarez2@hotmail.com.
