Police search for armed robber

DUNCAN — Another armed robbery took place Sunday night at the Dollar General store on Elder near Fifth Street. Just before the doors were to be locked at 10 p.m., a man entered brandishing a pistol and demanded cash.

Duncan Police Capt. Jay Evans, who oversees the detective division, said the man was wearing a hoodie and had his face covered and wore gloves.

Few details could be provided as the crime is being investigated. Evans did say that the crime was quick.

Four young men were arrested and appeared in Stephens County District Court last week for their suspected roles in armed robberies of three Duncan convenience stores. It isn’t known if the most recent armed robbery Sunday night is connected to those previous ones.

Evans said Monday though, that some more information has been discovered in connection with the convenience store robberies.

“This is connected to a group of guns that were stolen in Sigler on Feb. 14,” he said.

The gun allegedly used in the armed robbery at Stripes, has been identified as one of 33 guns stolen in Sigler.

“There are probably six or more guns still out there,” Evans said. Two locals have been connected to the Sigler crime and while they were juveniles when it was committed, they have since turned 18, he said.

“We believe this could be some of the same group,” he said, referring to the four who have been arrested and charged with the convenience store holdups.

“They are all acquaintances and consider themselves ‘homeboys.’ They are white,” Evans said.
