The outlay purchases for the county stirred up confusion and discussion among the Stephens County commissioners.
During Monday’s regular meeting, the Board of Stephens County Commissioners reviewed the outlay purchases, which included a helicopter dolly. District 2 commissioner Lonnie Estes said the dolly is used to move a helicopter without having to turn the helicopter on.
Dee Bowen, District 3 commissioner, inquired if the county owns a helicopter, “Do we have a helicopter?”
“As far as I know,” Estes said in response.
County Clerk Cindy Kaiser said a helicopter isn’t insured through the county, something Bowen said can’t be done regardless.
Despite the confusion with the helicopter and the related dolly, the commissioners approved the outlay purchases.
“I heard we have one, but I haven’t seen it,” Kaiser said.
In other action:
- To save time for postal carriers at the Stephens County Courthouse, the courthouse is getting centralized mailboxes for all county offices. The commissioners approved the addition of the mailboxes, which will be installed on the first floor of the courthouse on the south side of the elevator. Andy Davis, Duncan postmaster, attended the meeting to discuss the inclusion of mailboxes for the county offices. “We can mount it in the floor,” Davis said. “It wouldn’t take up as much of the break room.” The mailbox fixtures are 30 1/2 inches wide and 18 inches deep. The courthouse will need two fixtures to serve the entire building. Davis said Oklahoma City does have some mailbox fixtures in stock. “We can have them in place by the end of the week,” Davis said.
- The commissioners acknowledged the list of mineral rights. This was not an action item.
