Armed robbery under investigation

DUNCAN — Duncan Police are investigating an armed robbery, which occurred early Tuesday morning at the Chisholm Corner at U.S. Hwy 81 and Plato Road.

“Two masked men entered the store a little after 3 a.m,” Duncan Police Department Lieutenant of Investigation Department Joe Shoemake said. “The first man produced a handgun, demanded money and forced the clerk to open the registers.”

Meanwhile, the second man went to the register at the drive-thru window and attempted to open that drawer but was unsuccessful.

“He went back to the front and helped remove money from those registers. They put in bags and fled towards the east,” Shoemake said.

Within two to three minutes, the suspects left the store with an undetermined amount of cash via the east door and continued east on foot down Plato Road. Shoemake said a car was not spotted.

“As soon as they left the store, the clerk immediately called 911,”  he said. “He did a good job.”

Officers were on scene within minutes and were soon combing the area searching for suspects on foot. Shoemake followed shortly to begin the investigation.

As of about 5 p.m. Wednesday, detectives were preparing to review surveillance tapes and consider sending them to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations. There were also items found on scene that will be sent to the OSBI lab for print identification.

“We did recover some items that we believe were either discarded or accidentally dropped by the suspects that we are going to submit to the OSBI lab,” Shoemake said.

Detectives also expect to have audio recording of the incident today. Nobody was hurt during the incident.
