Bar fight results in Duncan man’s arrest

DUNCAN — A fight at a local bar, led to a Duncan man being arrested for assault and battery with a deadly weapon.

John Mike Everett, 66, allegedly stabbed another man at Star Bar, after an altercation between two other individuals escalated to include several bar patrons as they tried to break up the fight. According to the affidavit, Everett said he might have been responsible for stabbing another person. The affidavit was filed by Richard Keenan, deputy for the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.

“John stated, ‘I think I stabbed a guy. I bought an assisted opening, bench-made pocket knife in Lawton at the PX, and I was going to give it to my son. I remember taking the knife out of the box and putting it in my pocket yesterday. I remember taking it to the bar because I wanted to show some of my friends. When I woke up this morning, the knife was missing and I had a feeling something bad had happened,’” according to the affidavit.

The knife was found on top of the bar, and video recorded showed a bar patron walk to the back of the bar, where the knife was found, according to the affidavit. A woman interviewed by Keenan admitted to tossing the knife after picking it up when she realized it might have been used to stab someone.

Bail for Everett was set at $75,000. He is slated to appear in court at 2 p.m. Feb. 7 and is supposed to have an attorney at that time. He is also scheduled to be in court at 9 a.m. March 5.
