Several additions will be making their way into the Employee Personnel Policy Handbook and the Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy Handbook for Stephens County after changes were made to the documents during the Board of Stephens County Commissioners meeting.
The changes are part of regular updates made by the county to ensure policies are current and in accordance with current federal and state employment laws. As part of the employment policies, the county made changes including the addition of the I-9 form and background checks.
Upon hiring, new employees will also be required to participate in a pre-employment physical.
Other policies that were updated include the use of county property. County property may not be used for employee’s private use. Stricter language regarding the use of county communication systems was also implemented. Additionally, county employees may only have a handgun on county property with the proper permits and only if it is kept in the employee’s locked vehicle.
Once these changes are added to the documents, the county is required to give 10 days notice before they can begin enforcing the new policies.
The board also approved several items regarding FY-2013 Community Development Block Grant for the addition of a new well for the proprosed Water Project for Stephens County Rural Water District No. 5. There was no attendance by the public at the public hearing during the commissioner’s meeting. The comissioner’s approved the Citizen’s Participation Plan, resolution to apply for the CDBG grant, resolution on matching funds, the Residential Anti-Dispalcement Plan and Relocation Assistance Plan and the Inter-Local Cooperative Agreement with Stephens County Rural Water District No. 5.
For the project, $224,999 is being requested for grants and $225,001 in matching funds from the water district will be used for a total project cost of $450,000. The well that is being worked on for the project is already drilled but is not completely operational.
