Preparations for the fall and holiday season were the main focus of the October Comanche Chamber of Commerce meeting Wednesday afternoon.
The Chamber board discussed several activities for the month of October including ddecoration of the city’s light poles. The poles will be decked out in fall decor by Oct. 15.
“People can call me if they would like to decorate a pole,” said Bruce Akins, president of the Comanche Chamber. Akins can be reached at First National Bank of Comanche at 580-439-5457.
Fall Fest will be Oct. 26 in the Field of Dreams. To close out the month, Trick or Treat on the Trail will be from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 31 on Comanche’s Main St. Businesses along the street will be giving out candy, said Akins.
“Other businesses can also come set up tables along Main St. to participate,” he said. “We expect 200-300 kids and their parents to come.”
A costume contest for children in various age divisions will also take place at 5:30 p.m. Cash prizes will be given to the winners.
A committee was established during the meeting to create an event to honor area veterans on Veteran’s Day Nov. 11. More information will be available on what kind of event it will be at the next Chamber meeting on Nov. 6.
American flags will be flown throughout the town on Veteran’s Day, said Akins.
Holiday decorating in Comanche will be done by Nov. 30 and will last through Jan. 1. Akins said the decor makes the town look good.
One large event in December will be the annual Christmas Parade, which will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 7 along Main St. Cash prizes will be given to the best floats and fire departments.
“I would love to have more local school marching bands in our parade,” Akins said.
The Chamber will also be doing Christmas Cash Dec. 16-20. Each of those five days, two names will be drawn to win a $50 cash prize. To register, patrons can stop in at any Chamber business to submit their name for the drawing. There will be ten drawings total.
